چکیده

PALAEOBIOGEOGRAPHY is a field marked by important intellectual insights and developments; recently the field has shown signs of emerging insights and new growth. This positive trajectory can be ascribed to several significant developments. Chief among these is our growing knowledge of the fossil record, involving the publication of more detailed palaeobiogeographic studies (Mawson et al. 1998; Shi & Grunt 2000; Talent et al. 2001; Meyer-Berthaud et al. 2003; Meert & Lieberman 2004; Shi 2006). It is also related to an increasing emphasis on quantification in palaeobiogeography (eg. Shi 1993), expanding the precision and sharpening the interpretation of results. Coupled with this is the growth of phylogenetic approaches to biogeography and palaeobiogeography (Brooks & McLennan 1991; Lieberman 2000) that allow patterns to be related directly to evolutionary diversification. Ultimately, however, aspects of the growth of palaeobiogeography can be tied to the intrinsic nature of palaeobiogeographic data themselves. In particular, these are the geographic distributions of species (or other taxa) in the fossil record, thereby joining the discipline with another important research area, macroevolution. THE GEOGRAPHY OF MACROEVOLUTION

The “South Gondwana Fauna” in the Jurassic – an example of the utility of marine Ostracods for palaeobiogeography and palaeogeographic researches

The present article is a review of a palaeobiogeographic analysis of Jurassic Ostracods from East Africa, India and Madagascar and includes also some general remarks on palaeobiogeography, biodiversity and Ostracod ecology. The palaeobiogeographic study shows the high significance of this microfossil group for the reconstruction of palaeogeographic processes, particularly plate tectonic developm...

Emerging Adulthood and Its Characteristics in Iranian University Students

Purpose: Emerging adulthood (EA) theory has been proposed as a distinct developmental period between adolescence and adulthood by Arnett in 2000. This construct is promptly embraced by contemporary scholars, and research on emerging adulthood increased over the past decade in many countries, but yet questions remained about the universality of emerging adulthood. This article is extracted from ...

Before hierarchy: the rise and fall of Stephen Jay Gould's first macroevolutionary synthesis.

Few of Stephen Jay Gould's accomplishments in evolutionary biology have received more attention than his hierarchical theory of evolution, which postulates a causal discontinuity between micro- and macroevolutionary events. But Gould's hierarchical theory was his second attempt to supply a theoretical framework for macroevolutionary studies-and one he did not inaugurate until the mid-1970s. In ...

Emerging strategies for the synthesis of highly monodisperse colloidal nanostructures.

This short perspective describes recent developments in the synthesis of nanoscale colloids from sparingly soluble precursors. These strategies, which we dubbed 'heterogeneous nanocrystal syntheses' owing to the presence of a precursor in a non-colloidal solid state, have demonstrated the ability to generate new colloidal shapes, a superior monodispersity and a remarkable ability to delay the o...
